The Minnesota Vikings have waived receiver Randy Moss following their loss to the New England Patriots and a miserable press conference in which the receiver stated he would not address the press for the rest of the NFL betting season. That’s not the only thing they’re waving either.

For all intents on purposes, the Super Bowl dreams of the Vikings are dead in the water too.

Brad Childress and Brett Favre desperately needed to fill the void left by Sidney Rice – who is out with a hip injury – so they dealt a third round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft to the Patriots in exchange for Moss, a player they drafted way back in 1998.

In four games with the Vikings, Moss never caught more than 5 passes in a single match, failed to break the 100-yard barrier in any game and scored only 2 touchdowns during that entire stretch.

Still, this is stunning news in NFL betting. It seemed like the Vikings were poised to make a run with Favre and Moss, but it’s been a trying season for both. With just two wins on the season, the Vikings have fallen far out of the NFC playoff picture. Moss was supposed to be the difference maker after a 1-2 start that only boasted a win over Detroit.

What a waste of time for both Moss and the Vikings.

The move to waive Moss is simply the team trying to hedge their bets. If a team picks him up off waivers, they’ll have to send a compensatory pick back to Minnesota in an upcoming draft. The question is whether or not any team will be interested in a dynamic receiving threat, with personality issues that are resurfacing at an alarming rate.

The only team that I can see taking a chance on Randy Moss at this point is the equally struggling NFC North rival of the Vikings – the Chicago Bears. Even with Mike Martz inserting a high flying offense with Jay Cutler, the Bears have failed to make any mark. They’re 27th in the league with just 18.0 points per game, but somehow are clinging to a 4-3 SU record and trailing Green Bay in the standings.

No other team in the league is in a position to either want or need a receiver like Randy Moss. You could make a case for the Cincinnati Bengals, but an unholy trinity of Moss, Owens and Ochocinco seems like an absolute disaster waiting to explode in Marvin Lewis’s face. As desperate as Cincinnati has become in NFL betting, they can’t be that desperate.

Considering the injuries to both Dallas Clark and Austin Collie, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Moss’s name appear on the conference table for the Indianapolis Colts either. Still, depending on how they fare in their Monday Night Football matchup against the Houston Texans, Indy is not in a position to hit the panic button like that. Frankly, they never are.

Teams sitting on the bubble probably won’t want to jeopardize their NFL betting futures for the remainder of the season by attaching themselves to an apparent locker room cancer like Moss. That rules out the Falcons, Bucs, Jets, Steelers, Chiefs and Redskins.

Listen, I was one of the few that defended Moss when he was initially traded by New England. I think he’s a special talent – a unique athlete that changes the way any game is played and how handicappers play certain NFL betting matchups. My issue on the field with him is that a player of his stature eventually has to make a big impact. Thus far, he’s failed to do anything other than supposedly “stretch” defensive coverage.

Off the field, he’s reverted back to being a douchebag which is simply sad. Not talking to the media while flaunting fans with $25,000 fines like they’re nothing is insulting, especially when a good portion of fans out there hardly make that much money after taxes in a given year.

It’s different to be upset about a fine like James Harrison did. To say virtually that, “I don’t care if they fine me because I’m rich and I want to do things my way” shows you that Randy Moss is still the same prick we loved to hate.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see an NFL betting team come out of nowhere to nab Moss. He still has some value on the field if you can control his personality. That being said – if the likes of Favre, Childress, Brady, Welker and Belichik can’t do it I doubt that anybody can or will be willing to try.

Is it the last we’ve seen of Randy Moss? I doubt it. Even Terrell Owens was able to find work.

Most certainly, after another loss, it’s the last we’ve seen of the Minnesota Vikings in NFL betting when it comes to Super Bowl XLV futures. Releasing Moss is just the first revelation they’ve had as a team – how they handle Favre and the remainder of the season with Tavaris Jackson on the bench will be just as nauseating…if not a little more than seeing a recently waived Moss insult the fans who supported him despite all the crap he’s put us through.
