DYK – Did You Know
The Braves have lost three straight to Washington with derek Lowe on the mound.
Texas right-hander Colby Lewis has allowed just one earned run in two stright starts and three of his last four outings overall.
Texas has not scored more than two runs in five straight games with Lewis on the mound.
Boston’s Josh Beckett has been pounded for 13 earned runs over his last two starts spanning just 9.2 total innings, allowing 21 hits and four home runs along the way.
Minnesota veteran right-hander Carl Pavano has gone 7-1 in his last eight starts while not allowing more than two earned runs in five of his last six starts.
No Slowing Down
The Atlanta Braves just keep fighting off the streaking Philadelphia Phillies, having gone 10-3 in their last 13 games to remain perched atop the standing in the NL East, 2.5 games ahead of the Phils.
The Minnesota Twins and San Diego Padres have both gone a blistering 8-1 in their last nine games while Philadelphia has also been on fire, going 5-1 in their last six.
The Minnesota Twins absolutely own the Chicago White Sox! The feisty small-market Twins have won 20 of the last 26 games against their AL Central division rivals.
The Cincinnati Reds have spanked the Arizona Diamondbacks unmercifully in recent seasons, winning 14 of the last 17 games against the D-Backs.
We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Wins
The Los Angeles Angels have lost all eight meetings against the Boston Red Sox this season while the Pittsburgh Pirates have gone 1-8 in their last nine games overall. Good job letting Vladimir Guerrero and John Lackey leave town Halos!
The Colorado Rockies apparently have a stigma about playing the NL West division rival Los Angeles Dodgers. The reeling Rockies have compiled a pitiful 7-22 record in last 29 games against the Dodgers.
Last but not least MLB bettors, the Texas Rangers have lost four in a row to the revitalized Baltimore Orioles.
Over and Under
•The Under is 5-0 in Florida’s last five games.
•The Over is 6-1 in the Texas Rangers’ last 7 games.
•The total has gone OVER in 14 of Philadelphia’s last 21 games while also going 4-1 in the Chicago White Sox’s last five games.
The Rich Get Richer
The Atlanta Braves acquired Chicago Cubs veteran first baseman Derrek Lee on Wednesday in exchange for a trio of minor league pitching prospects in left-handers Tyrelle Harrus and Jeffrey Lorick and right-hander Robinson Lopez.
Currently in the final season of a five-year, $65 million deal, Lee had a no-trade clause in his contract and used it to veto a deal to the Los Angeles Angels just last month, but this time around, the big slugger accepted the deal by the Braves. Lee has struggled this season, batting just .251 with 16 homers and 56 RBIs.
Feelin’ The Hate
Leave it up to my homeboy Ozzie Guillen to start some ship! The fiery manager of the Chicago White Sox recently told The Chicago Tribune, “It’s not a friendly rivalry,” Guillen said. “I hate them. As soon as the game starts, we hate each other.
“They’re my friends. I talk to them before the game. I talk to them after the game. I always have a smile with Gardy (Minnesota manager Rod Gardenhire) and the coaching staff. But as soon as the game starts, we’re not friends anymore. We have a job to do.”
Unfortunately for Guillen, his ChiSox aren’t doing a very good job against their division rivals, having lost 21 of their last 26 in Minnesota.
