Some NFL teams score a ton of points to cash in consistently. Others give up just as many to consistently strike pay dirt.

While one or the other will generally suffice, the best Over teams in the NFL generally have some combination of the two.

That’s right pro football betting buffs, when it comes to cashing in consistently as an Over selection against the O/U total, a handful of NFL teams did so a year ago – and several more look like they have the potential to do so again over the course of the coming 2010 regular season.

This look at each of those teams will give devoted NFL gamblers everywhere the insight they will need in order to make a plethora of spot-on Over picks throughout the course of the 2010 NFL season.

With that thought in mind, here is a look at least season’s best Over producers, followed by my picks on which teams will be the biggest Over producers this coming season.

2009 Over Leaders

  • NY Giants 11-4-1
  • San Diego 10-5-1
  • Philadelphia 10-6
  • Miami 9-6-1
  • Pittsburgh 9-6-1
  • In 2010, I believe this group of teams will likely lead the NFL in Over outcomes for their own respective reasons.

    New York Giants
There’s a reason the Giants led the league in Overs last season and that’s because they were good enough offensively to rank eighth in the league in points per game (25.1) and lousy enough defensively to allow almost as many, (26.7) to rank 30th overall.

While I’m expecting the G-Men to be a bit more consistent than they were in their roller-coaster 2010 campaign, I still think they’re going to be a ‘20- 20’ team in terms of points scored and allowed per game – putting them right ballpark for another season of nine or more Overs.

    San Diego Chargers
The Chargers ranked fourth in points per game last season (28.4) but also gave up 20 points per game defensively to rank second in Over outcomes a year ago.

NFL gamblers can bet their bottom dollar the Chargers will score their share of points again while ranking somewhere in the top five teams in the league in scoring this season – but I’m also thinking the Bolts are going to be mediocre on defense while allowing at least 20 points per contest too, putting them right in the mix to be one of the top Over teams in the NFL in 2010.

    Philadelphia Eagles
Donovan McNabb fans that are hoping his replacement Kevin Kolb fails as an starting quarterback might want to think again. I’ve seen Kolb first-hand and I can say with a fair amount of certainty that the kid is going to operate Philly’s version of the West Coast offense solidly in his first season as an NFL starter.

Kolb has what I believe are the best pair of young wide receivers in the league and a pro bowl-caliber tight end at his disposal, so I expect Philly to score the ball at a consistent rate in 2010.

Of course, defense is another matter altogether. The Birds have gone really young with their roster and the team’s defense has been hurt by the losses of some of their key veterans, so I expect them to allow at least 20 points per game in 2010.

    Detroit Lions
The Lions went 8-8 against the O/U total last season, but I believe they will play Over the Total a bit more in 2010 as they improve on both sides of the ball after averaging just 16.4 points per game last season (27th), while allowing a whopping 30.9 per contest defensively (32nd). If the Lions can average somewhere in the neighborhood of 21 points per game, while bringing down their defensive points allowed to something closer to 24-27 points per game, they should see some smaller O/U totals and play Over more often than not.

    Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks went 7-9 against the O/U last season, but I believe they are in line to be a much-improved ballclub in 2010 after pulling off the best draft of any team in the league this season and naming former NFL head coach Pete Carroll to as head coach and GM. With a healthy Matt Hasselbeck under center, the Seahawks should be able to score their share of pints this season after averaging just 17.5 points per game last season, (25th) and allowing 24.4 points per game defensively, (26th). If Seattle faces mostly realistic O/U totals this season, I like them to play Over more often than not.

    Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs ranked just outside the top five in Overs last season, going 9-5-2 against the O/U Total in Todd Haley’s first season at the helm of the franchise. I’m expecting a lot more of the same from the Chiefs in 2010 as they continue the rebuilding plan they began under their young head coach just last season. Kansas City averaged just 18.4 points per game last season (23rd) but gave up a whopping 26.5 points per contest defensively to rank 29th in that category and that’s about what I’m expecting out of the Chiefs again in 2010.

    Indianapolis Colts
Let’s be for real for a minute NFL gamblers and admit that the Colts are going to score a ton of points under the direction of future Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning (as always) while almost assuredly remaining one of the top Over producers in the league because of their high-scoring offense.

Indianapolis went 9-7 against the O/U total last season and ranked seventh in scoring in 2009 (26.0) while also ranking eight in points allowed by limiting their opponents to 19.2 points per game. Still, the combined 45.2 points per game average was enough to help the Colts play Over the total nine times last season and I believe the team’s defense will dictate just how many times they do go over the total this coming season. If the Colts play excellent defense, I expect them to produce at least eight Overs, if they’re mediocre defensively, look for nine or 10 Over outcomes.
